Rose Staples, CAP-OM, Vice President
Rose Staples has been in an Administrative Assistant role for over forty-one years. She is currently an Executive Assistant in the Hydropower Department of HDR Inc., headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to working for HDR, Rose was Executive Assistant to the Vice President of U.S. Sales at SEBAGO, Inc. (a world-renowned footwear manufacturer located in Gorham, Maine) for over thirty-one years. Yes, same position, four executives later—with her role in the final years much different than in the early years (as addressograph typing on metal, spirit duplicators, punch-hole fax machines, and manual typewriters made way for the electronic age of computers, email, and instant communications). Almost ten years ago, SEBAGO was sold to an out-of-state competitor and everything was moved thousands of miles from Maine. Rose then joined Devine Tarbell & Associates (DTA), a 200-plus engineering firm specializing in hydropower engineering, regulatory, and environmental consulting. There she served as Executive Assistant to the Corporate Management Team, located in Portland, Maine. In 2009 DTA merged with HDR, Inc. and Rose transitioned to her current role.
Rose joined NSA (Portland Chapter) in 1975—and has seen the transition to PSI and later to IAAP. She earned her CPS (now CAP) rating in 1979, and her OM certification in 2010. Rose has served her chapter and division in a multitude of positions over the years. She has been a Member of Excellence since 2009-2010 and has already set her course to earn her 5-year pin in 2013-2014. Over the years, she has also earned her associates degree in Secretarial Science and almost ten years later, her 4-year degree in Business Administration.
In her spare time, Rose is an avid reader and has embarked on a journey to trace her family histories (never-ending puzzles with many twists and turns).
