Communication from the President
Dear GNED Members:
I am sure that you have noticed the change in format for the “Great News Delivered Electronically”. We had many comments on the survey and have taken them into consideration. We hope that you like the “back to basic” format similar to what we had a year or so ago. I also think that by using the GNED website to have each digest as a page, will be more helpful when trying to find an older version.
There is a lot to cover this month with the annual meeting around the corner and EFAM fast on it’s heals. If you have any questions, or concerns, please feel free to reach out to one of the GNED Board Members.
Bob Marshall

Web Community
Have you taken the time to log into the web community and create and ID and password? Your chapter does not have to be on the web community in order for you to participate in the egroups and to create your own profile on the web community. Ben McClanahan, Internet Communications Coordinator, at headquarters put together this quick presentation to show you how you can create your id if you have not done so. Here is the link to the instructions. http://sitebuilders.iaap-hq.org/user-help/logging-on
Some time ago, I created a public group for all members of the GNED to go out and collaborate and share ideas and things that they are doing. Please take a moment to get your ID and join the group. This is one of the best ways for sharing all that your chapter is doing. Post your chapter newsletter and latest programs, workshops and happenings out there for all of the chapters within the GNED to look at.
2010 GNED Division Annual Meeting Update
We are looking for advertisers for the program at this point. If your chapter would like to take out an ad in the GNED 2010 DAM Program, please use the attached form to do so. Do you know of a business that might benefit from exposure to the members of the GNED? Send this along to them. We are hoping to get ads from all over New England and be able to have a concentration of them from the Boston Area that we can share with our counterparts in other divisions as they come to the EFAM in Boston. It would be great if we could have a “Best of Boston” pull out section that we can post up to the GNED Home page for folks coming to EFAM. It would be a great opportunity for the businesses advertising, our members from around the world and would be a great way to raise money to help the GNED defray costs on programs and services offered in the coming year. I ask that all members take a moment to send this to at least one business that they think might want to advertise. Click here for the advertising document
The 2010 GNED Annual Meeting is just around the corner. Now is the time that your chapters should start thinking about your basket fundraisers. We will not be having any 50/50 raffles in hospitality this year. You can have a basket raffle, but gaming laws prohibit the 50/50 types of raffles. Remember that there are 26 chapters now in the GNED and we ask that you have ONE opportunity per chapter. There is limited space in hospitality and your basket should take up no more than 2 feet of space on a table.
We have several vendors lined up to date for the vendor fair that takes place on Friday, May 21, 2010 in Newport. If you have anyone that is interested in being a vendor at our vendor fair, please let Linda O’Connor know at lindaed123@yahoo.com, or have the vendor fill out this form and send it in. We have a very limited number of tables remaining at the vendor fair.
Division Annual Meeting Fundraising
I am happy to announce that the GNED 2010 DAM Committee is sponsoring a fundraiser at Boston Market on April 23rd. It's part of a fundraising opportunity open to any chapter in the Division. I ask that anyone in the CT Area get ahold of Linda O'Connor, Conference Coordinator at lindaed123@yahoo.com, to obtain a ticket to the event.
Here is how it works.
The GNED 2010 DAM Committee did the following:
- Filled out the Boston Market Fundraising Form.
- Headed to area Boston Markets to turn in your Fundraising Form and finalize the date.
- Publicize your event with members of your organization.
- Provide reminders and the Event Tickets to the organization.
- Remind members to visit the designated Boston Market on the agreed upon date between 4p.m. and 10p.m., and hand the cashier the Event Ticket when ordering.
In return the Committee will get 15% of sales for that evening with tickets presented to go towards the annual meeting costs. We hope that get a lot of participation.
2010 Division Annual Meeting Silent Auction Items
The Division Annual Meeting is in need of items for the Silent Auction. If you want to donate an item or know of a business that would like to donate an item, please contact Linda O'Connor at lindaed123@yahoo.com to find out how to donate. Girl Scouts Help Prepare for EFAM
Rosemarie S. Kingsbury, CPS/CAP
Treasurer, 2010 EFAM Host Committee
Preparation for hosting the IAAP Education Forum and Annual Meeting began several years ago when the GNED bid for the 2010 EFAM to be held in Boston. Two years ago the Host Committee was formed and began meeting, planning and fundraising. Late last fall the Power of Commitment Commemorative Lapel Pin design was sent by Headquarters to the Host Committee and we began preparing for is sale.
Shipping the Commemorative Pin was made easier with the help of Rhode Island Girl Scout Troop 119 as they stuffed more than 500 Pins into padded envelopes. At that same Troop meeting in February, we discussed what an Administrative Professional is, where we are found, education, certifications, and the IAAP. We ended the meeting with each of the girls learning how to properly shake a person’s hand.
This handshaking lesson was practiced again when I returned in March to award each of the girls with the IAAP Host Committee patch and a Power of Commitment Commemorative Pin. The girls were excited to be receiving the patch, and happily surprised that they were also getting one of the Pins they stuffed into all those envelopes.
I would like to thank Girl Scout Troop 119 for their help and for affording me the opportunity to discuss the administrative profession and the IAAP.
Upcoming Chapters
On a recent trip to the Stoweflake Resort in Stowe, VT, I struck up a conversation with the Vice President of Sales, Scot Baraw and Sales Manager, Devin Gleason about the potential for an IAAP chapter in the Burlington/Stowe area and they expressed an interest in helping us establish a chapter in the area as well. Susan Gendreau, CPS of the CT River Valley Chapter was there as well and the CT River Valley Chapter has decided to work with the Stoweflake and the Chamber of Commerce in that area to establish this chapter. Congratulations to the CT River Valley Chapter.
On June 5 and 6, Susan Gendreau, CPS and Robert Marshall CAP will present a presentation at the Aetna Headquarters in Hartford on membership and there is a possibility that these folks might get enough interest to build a chapter.
