Communication from the President

Dear GNED Members:

It’s been a very busy month.  Personally I had the opportunity to travel to Ohio to see my parents and my sister flew in from Alaska.  It was great to have the entire family together.  I was only home a week before driving to Erie, PA for a Golden Jubilee at Mount St. Benedict.

My IAAP travels had me busy this month as well.  I was able to attend APW events at the Twin State Valley Chapter in Vermont, as well as Pfizer in Groton and the CT River Valley Chapter in Windsor, CT.

The 2010 Host committee is working hard to get all of the last minute loose ends tied up for a great weekend in Newport, RI.  We have even added a Friday night speaker thanks to a generous donation from the Goodman Speakers Bureau.

Later this week many of you will be taking your certification exams.  We wish you the best of luck.  I will be proctoring in Hartford and look forward to seeing everyone.

Web Community

Have you taken the time to log into the web community and create and ID and password?  Your chapter does not have to be on the web community in order for you to participate in the egroups and to create your own profile on the web community.  Ben McClanahan, Internet Communications Coordinator,  at headquarters put together this quick presentation to show you how you can create your id if you have not done so.  Here is the link to the instructions. http://sitebuilders.iaap-hq.org/user-help/logging-on

Some time ago, I created a public group for all members of the GNED to go out and collaborate and share ideas and things that they are doing.  Please take a moment to get your ID and join the group.  This is one of the best ways for sharing all that your chapter is doing.  Post your chapter newsletter and latest programs, workshops and happenings out there for all of the chapters within the GNED to look at.

2010 GNED Division Annual Meeting Update

Friday Night Program Update

We are excited to announce the addition of our Friday night speaker after dinner.  The Goodman’s Speaker Bureau has sponsored our program for the evening.  Mary Jones will be speaking to us that evening and Mary’s topics include “Believe in Yourself!” and “The Power of Persistence”.

Mary Jones

Mary is a well-known and highly-respected Connecticut media personality.  She is the host of an upbeat, engaging talk show on four radio stations in Connecticut and two weekly television features on NBC Connecticut.

Mary is a warm, inspirational, and motivated speaker who connects very personally with her audiences.  Her radio show is a community of listeners where she and her audience talk about experiences, insights and perspectives on life and “where friends celebrate life, living, and laughter". Listeners tune in for warmth, insights, information, entertainment, and smiles – she challenges them to feel good about themselves and others.

Mary’s signature sign-off, “Believe in Yourself” is her message and overall theme. She frequently speaks at fund-raisers, awards, and women-oriented events of all sizes on the importance of self-confidence and self-esteem and on other motivational topics. She carries this critical theme into her long-standing very popular bi-monthly Girls Night Out that regularly draws several hundred women.

Mary is a contributing author in The Power of Persistence, released in October, 2009, which became number one on Amazon’s self-improvement category, and is co-author of Incredible Life, due out this spring.

Prior to radio, Mary owned a Connecticut-based corporate recruiting firm for many years following a 10-year career in social work and human services management.  She has a BS and Masters in Social Work.
